Build with Claude Code: Built-in Commands

The slash commands most people never learn, and why knowing them is a 2x productivity boost.

Claude Code has a couple dozen slash commands built into the CLI. Most people only ever use two or three — /help, /clear, maybe /model — and miss out on things that would have saved them hours. This session is a guided tour of the ones that matter. It’s aimed at anyone who has Claude Code installed and has built something with it, but hasn’t dug into the commands. If you’ve ever hit a context limit mid-session and not known what to do, or wondered why Claude suddenly feels slower, or wished you could review a subagent’s work without scrolling through a whole transcript — this session is for you. By the end of the 90 minutes you will: • Know every built-in command by name and what it does, not just the ones you’ve stumbled into. • Know the difference between /clear, /compact, and starting fresh — and when each is the right move. • Be comfortable using /agents, /model, /review, /resume, and /cost for real work. • Understand what happens under the hood when you run these — why /compact preserves some things and drops others, why switching models mid-session matters for cost, and so on. How the session runs: first 20 minutes on how Claude Code organises commands and where they’re documented. Then we go through the ones that matter one at a time in a live session, running each against a real project. Back half: you’ll take a messy conversation of your own and clean it up deliberately — /compact, /clear, /agents, /resume, the right one at the right moment. Bring your laptop and a Claude Code session you’ve been working on — ideally one that’s gotten long or messy.
